The firebird hovered at the entrance of the canyon watching the three of them.

Blue was crunching on a rock. He giggled and stated something that appeared like “silly bird” to the pendragon they usually all laughed.

It was ridiculous. Girasol felt utterly powerless and her emotions have been harm, too. She had no concept how she might assist them.

“How can I make them listen to me?” she asked the mountains. Her normally shiny orange flames had develop into a faint pink glow.

“You can’t,” a voice which seemed to return from nowhere and all over the place at the similar time answered. “I have induced hebephrenia into their feeble minds.”

“Who are you and what is heb-phren-whatever you called it?” Girasol flared, melting a few of the ice from the nearby rock faces.

“My, aren’t you a hot-head?” the voice chuckled at her display of anger. “I am Yegwa. They call me the spirit of false springtime. I have put your friends and the pendragon under a spell which makes them think this is a wonderful place to live.”

“Let them go,” the firebird demanded, blue-white sparks spouting from her feathered crown. She couldn’t see the spirit and was very annoyed.

“Let them go? I wouldn’t dream of it. It’s not often I have this much fun,” Yegwa stated in a voice hungry with anticipation. “My magic doesn’t seem to work on you though,” she stated thoughtfully. “It must be that hot blood of yours.”

“What kind of spirit are you? How can you enjoy watching your victims freeze or starve to death?” Girasol asked. “You are so wicked. I don’t know what’s worse—you or that evil sorcerer, Magh,” she shouted disgustedly.

“Magh? Sorcerer? Do tell…he sounds like someone I would like,” Yegwa requested with curiosity. “Is he single?”

“Single? What?” Girasol blazed. “Forget about Magh! I don’t have time for this back and forth with you.”

“Ooh, well, la-ti-da…aren’t you the peppery dish,” Yegwa stated, letting unfastened a shrill cackle. “If I had teeth, I’d eat you right up!”

“What about my friends?” the firebird asked once more. She appeared around the prime of the canyon walls looking for the proprietor of the ghostly voice.

“You’re welcome to keep company with them if you wish. I don’t keep anyone imprisoned, you know,” Yegwa stated, making an attempt to sound sugary sweet.

“Thanks a lot,” Girasol stated sarcastically. She tapped her head together with her proper wing, making an attempt to determine a strategy to save her associates. “Hot blood. . .hmmm. . .Warmth. . .that’s it,” she realized. “If they’re going to snap out of this, they need to be warm!” she thought out of the blue.

They have been going to freeze to demise if she did not help them quickly. She remembered seeing Blue decide up some pepo seeds earlier. She searched the bag hung across his shoulder and introduced one out. He was to date gone, he did not even notice her. One seed would give her enough power for 5 days. “In this cold, I might need this and more to keep them warm,” she thought, whereas chewing the seed.

Are you able to tell us about your e-book The Blue Unicorn’s Journey To Osm, in 45 phrases or less?

This can be a unicorn fairytale – from the unicorn’s perspective.

What was your favourite scene to write down?  I’m not a fan of bugs but in nature even the yuckiest bugs have a useful objective.  With this scene, I needed to precise to others that things will not be all the time how we imagine them. . .

In Protection Of A Bug

Girasol turned out to be an amazing information.  She flew slowly sufficient for Blue and Gaiso to comply with her smoke trails simply.  She flew excessive sufficient to scout out one of the best routes for the land sure vacationers.

There was not much to see on the Phlat Plains under.  Vegetation was sparse apart from a couple of low, wide-spreading timber and plenty of tall grass.

The only factor the firebird ate was the seed of the Pepo tree.  There weren’t many on the plains. When she finally spotted one, she swooped past, plucked a seed and popped it into her mouth.  Pepo seeds have been concerning the measurement and shade of a purple plum. Every time she ate one, she gained a substantial amount of power.

“A single Pepo seed gives me energy for five whole days,” she had advised Blue the first time they met.

Watching her now, Blue determined it is perhaps clever to store a number of the seeds in his bag for her. . .just in case of an emergency later.

A number of minutes after dining on the Pepo seed, something uncommon on the ground under caught Girasol’s eye.  Two-leggers have been pounding sharpened sticks of wooden into the bottom to carry a internet over a captured Humongas Elutron.  Girasol raced again to Blue and Gaiso, hoping to persuade them to assist her rescue the poor defenseless beetle.

Serving to a bug was not exactly at the prime of Blue’s precedence record. . .especially not a humongous bug.  “I don’t know. . .me and bugs don’t really get along,” he stated, remembering the current buzzy-biter encounter.  He felt a sudden jab of ache poking the place he had been stung.

Girasol refused to give up, “These Bugans are a filthy crew of bug bashers,” she advised them.  “They make shoes and shields from Elutron wings. They even use their filmy under-wings for veils and scarves.”

Girasol’s subsequent words have been horrifying.  “After they’ve ripped it all away, they’ll just leave him defenseless to die on the plains.”

Blue didn’t want more convincing.  He knew he had to help the beetle. He swallowed his worry of bugs however he was still apprehensive about his preventing talents.  In any case, he did not have any magic.

“You will do very well with your horn and hooves. Those are the weapons I use and I certainly win battles,” Gaiso stated.

“What if I can’t remember what you taught me?” Blue asked.  He didn’t need to let Gaiso down however he was scared.

“It will be fine, Blue,” Gaiso assured him.  The stag knew the unicorn had never faced an precise foe.  Although he was frightened for him, he stated, “You will know what to do once you are in battle.”

The companions raced to the bug’s rescue.  Although the preventing was intense, it ended in a short time.  Gaiso skewered two of the Bugans while the firebird roasted another together with her fiery breath.

The battle was over earlier than Blue even had a chance to be concerned.   Gaiso and Girasol have been completely satisfied that they had spared him that have however the unicorn was stunned to really feel disregarded.  “Why did you stop me, Gaiso? I was ready for that fight.”

“Ah, my young friend.  Don’t be in a hurry to be part of such violent events,” Gaiso advised him.

Blue was confused.  “But, isn’t this what you’ve been training me for?” he requested.

“No, I’ve trained you for survival.  I’ve trained you to defend yourself. This is different. It’s hard to end the life of another, especially when it’s not your fight.  You’ll be fighting your own battles soon enough.”

Blue was not pleased but he accepted Gaiso’s rationalization.  Working shortly, they freed the Humongas Elutron from the web.

“His name is Leder,” Girasol informed them as they tried to assist him together with his wounds.

To their shock, he refused their medicines.  Blue watched, dumbfounded, because the bug jumped into an enormous mud pit.  It rolled forwards and backwards until completely coated with the slimy stuff.

Blue could not perceive what the bug was doing.  “The minerals in the mud have healing powers,” Girasol defined.

Positive enough, Leder walked out of the mud, utterly healed.  Blue was glad the firebird knew that the mud was like drugs for the bug. He had been considering of using considered one of Cuprum’s water purification tablets to make a pleasant clean pool of water.

It felt strange to assume his good deed may need killed Leder or that it may need even have ruined the setting for all Elutron.

Giving because of his saviors, the bug ended with, “Someday. . .repay.  Home now…” Then, he scuttled away into an enormous gap coated with so much tall grass that no one had even observed it was there.

“Glad no one broke a leg,” Gaiso muttered.

The battle had been thirsty work so Blue placed a green water extraction pebble in a cup of mud.  Gaiso was uncertain that an odd coloured stone might flip mud to water.

At first, nothing much occurred.  He was just about to say, ‘I informed you so‘ when the mud turned to crystal clear fluid.

Blue took a taste and grinned.  “Ummmm. Refreshing.” He provided Gaiso a sip.

“This is great,” Gaiso stated, feeling a lot better. “Cuprum’s water magic is wondrous.”

Later that night time, Blue decided he was glad that they had stopped to assist the enormous beetle.  Typically putting oneself apart to help one other was the appropriate factor to do. This bug was not so dangerous in any case.

What was the hardest scene to edit out?

I initially meant for this e-book to be a full-fledged novel however after I turned acquainted with the illustrator, I noticed that it really deserved to be introduced to the studying public as an illustrated ebook.  So, I decided to cull all of it down to only two pages per chapter adopted by a two page illustration. Because of that call so many scenes have been edited out of the unique story that it’s troublesome to say which was the toughest to let go of.

Watership Down by Richard Adams can be a superb selection for followers of The Blue Unicorn’s Journey To Osm.  It is a tremendous rabbit fairytale – informed from the rabbit’s viewpoint. It made quite an impression on me because I had by no means earlier than thought-about that animals could possibly be capable of humanistic feelings and actions.  Perhaps they aren’t really…but that guide made me assume that anything is possible in the fantastical realm of nature.
